A factory isn't one lighting job, it's a dozen. The general production floor, the fine-assembly bench, the CNC station, the welding bay, the QC inspection table and the hazardous zone each carry a different lux level, a different glare limit, sometimes a different ingress and explosion rating. Drop a uniform high-bay grid over all of it and you over-light the gangways, under-light the inspection benches, and put non-compliant fittings into a classified zone, which is a safety finding waiting to happen. Our designers zone the building to the process and the activity, spec the right fitting for each, and hand you the documentation that proves it. That's the difference between lighting a shed and lighting a plant.
Manufacturing lux is driven by the visual difficulty of the task, the finer the work, the more light and the higher the colour fidelity. Typical maintained-illuminance design targets below, aligned to the SANS 10114-1 framework. We tune them to your process, machinery and inspection requirements, and rate every fitting for the zone it sits in.

Lux figures are typical maintained-illuminance design targets for guidance, aligned to SANS 10114-1. Hazardous-area lighting is specified to the documented area classification (ATEX / IECEx). Final values confirmed per site against the process, mounting height, surfaces and maintenance factor. Ask for the Relux report and compliance pack with your proposal.

A typical manufacturing retrofit isn't a like-for-like swap, it's a chance to fix lighting that was never zoned to the process in the first place. The general floor was over-lit and glaring; the inspection benches, where it actually mattered, were starved of light and running low-CRI fluorescents that washed out colour-coded faults.
Our designer split the building into task zones, dropped the general floor to a comfortable, even level, and layered high-CRI task light over the inspection and assembly benches where defect detection lives. Hazardous-area fittings were specified to the plant's classification drawing, with certs in the compliance pack. Energy fell on the general floor; quality rose on the benches.
